OH! WHAT A LOVELY WAR
This play chroniciles the events of WW1 through a satirical lense to critique its brutality and repetitivness showcasing the stark disconnect between the soldiers and leadership. Our ensemble driven piece worked to immerse the audience with the experiences of the front line reflected in the dark humour throughout, with our adaptation drawing on more mdoern references in the second act to emphasis its cyclical nature in time.

For our third-year production, the set centered around a fully functional tiered carousel, designed and built to allow the actors to pull, stand on and interact with dynamially whilst performing onstage. My design leaned heavily on the use of fabric to create a liminal, almost dreamlike space to draw on the surreal nature of the play. Initially adorned with material and wooden horses, underwent a transformation in act 2, stripping it to bare structure of steel, with material and horses scattered across the stage to convey the catastrophic explosion that had just occured. Credit to Serena Killen for capturing it in all its beauty!
Sound was also a crutial element in enhancing the production, operated live via QLab to synchronize the auditory landscape of the play with the on-stage action. I took on the role of sound operator to trigger and manage the cues during the run of the show where I worked alongside the management and sound mixing of mics and live instruments.
