Poison Dolls

This production was designed and created for screen where we conceptualised our narrative, working over the duration of the project to realize it into our final set in the Y Llwyfan. I worked as the Art Director for the kitchen drawing on each element to convey the lives of our two-tone band; Poison Dolls. Based in Brixton, 1982, this run down flat is being squatted and I was able to focus on capturing the essence of their living condition whilst infusing elements that reflected their punk-ska music and rebellious spirit. The kitchen was designed to feel like the heart of the flat in the centre - a place where the band gathered not just to eat, but to create, plan, and unwind their personalities. The atmosphere was a blend of chaos and creativity, with an underlying sense of resilience encompassing a 'them vs us' mentalilty. By combining these elements, the kitchen in their Brixton flat authentically represented their lifestyle and the era, providing a vivid backdrop that complemented their financial situation playing on the 70s feel.

Working as a team of 11 to conceptualise the piece we broke into our departments as we moved into the realising and making the of the box set. As the art director I worked on the concept sketches for the kitchen, taking these into digital models to experiment with the overall aesthetic of the room, playing with colour and form based on all the information and research gathered. This not only helped us as a team, but taking this wider with the other art directors to ensure a cohesive set that followed out set narrative throughout. This role was perfect for me as it meant I could get everything out of it that I wanted to as I was able to work in each area, design, props, consutruction, sourcing to bring this narrative to life all whilst keeping within a strict budget.
